The Spanish region of Madrid has suspended vaccinations for Corna in health centers for 4 days so that the medical staff can rest during the Easter holidays, despite the government’s pleas not to stop efforts to combat the virus.
The suspension of vaccination operations in Madrid came as the country scrambled to make up for lost time in its national vaccination plan due to lack of supplies.
Spanish Health Minister Carolina Darias last week urged regional authorities to continue vaccination during the Easter holidays, saying it was very important to continue the vaccination program.
In response to criticism from political opponents, which came about a month before the regional elections, the Madrid regional government said its health centers had stepped up vaccinations earlier this week to make up for the Easter stoppage.
Thursday, also known as Holy Maundy Thursday for Catholics, was a public holiday in the Madrid region, and its health centers that vaccinate people over the age of 80 who are unable to care for themselves have remained closed and will reopen on Monday.
