Singer-songwriter Ingrid Michaelson has apologised to Zayn Malik, Gigi Hadid and their fans after she mistakenly said that the couple was married during a live-stream.
While speaking on Patreon on 29 March, Michaelson, who has been collaborating with Malik, reportedly referred to the longtime couple as married, prompting fans to speculate that the pair had tied the knot in secret.
The rumour began to trend on Twitter shortly after, with thousands tweeting about the former One Direction star possibly being married to the supermodel.
Hours after making the mistake, Michaelson addressed the incident on her Instagram Stories, where she apologised while also acknowledging that she is not prepared for the level of fame.
“So, I should be asleep, but it’s been a crazy hour, hour and a half,” the 41-year-old began. “On my Patreon live-stream, I said that I’m working with Zayn. I mentioned that he was married, and he’s not married.
“As far as I know, he’s not married. It was a mistake. I’m so sorry, I said I was sorry. I don’t live in this world.”

The Girls Chase Boys singer then reflected on the immediate response to her words and why it has made her respect Malik and his “level of fame”.
“So the level of fame, it makes me really, truly admire Zayn and anybody with that level of fame. Every little thing you say is just, Wow! I’m not built for it,” she said, before taking the opportunity to to thank those who said “really sweet things to me” amid the drama.
Continuing to speak on her Instagram Stories, she said: “Just everybody has said really sweet things to me, and I have taken it very much to heart. And thank you. You have helped me to be able to, probably, fall asleep tonight.”
Michaelson concluded the statement apologising to Malik and Hadid if the rumour reaches them and “is annoying”.
“My apologies to Zayn and Gigi, if any of this trickles to you and is annoying. I’m sorry – that’s not my intention,” she concluded. “And to his fans, I’m sorry for getting you all riled up, and much love to you all. And I’m gonna go to sleep now.”
Malik and Hadid, who recently welcomed their first child together, a daughter named Khai, began dating in November 2015.
