The International Prize for Arabic Fiction unveils its short list for 2021

Today, Monday, the International Prize for Arabic Fiction (IAF) revealed its short list for 2021, which included six novels from Jordan, Tunisia, Morocco, Algeria and Iraq.

The list included novels:

Notebooks of Warraq, by Jalal Barjas, by the Jordanian.

– “Missing the neighbor,” by Habib Salmi, a Tunisian.

– “File 42”, by the Moroccan, Abd al-Majid Sabata.

– “Ain Hammurabi,” by the Algerian, Abdellatif Ould Abdallah.

– “Coming to Dar Al Akaber”, by Amira Ghoneim, from Tunisian.

– “Bird’s Tattoo,” by Donia Mikhael, for Iraqi.

In terms of prizes, each short-listed candidate will receive ten thousand dollars, while the winner will receive at the end of next May an additional 50 thousand dollars.

In its fourteenth session, the award received 121 fictional works from 13 countries, before the jury announced the long list at the beginning of this month, which included 16 works.

It should be noted that the jury for this competition was formed under the chairmanship of the Lebanese poet and writer, Shawqi Bzeih, and the membership of each of the Lebanese translator, Safaa Jubran, and the Moroccan translator, Muhammad Ait Hanna, the Yemeni writer, Ali al-Maqri, and the Emirati journalist, Aisha Sultan.

The International Prize for Arabic Fiction was established in 2007 and is sponsored by the “Booker Prize Foundation” in London, and funded by the Department of Culture and Tourism in the UAE capital, Abu Dhabi.
