Keanu Reeves to star in Netflix adaptation of his BRZRKR comic

Keanu Reeves’ next project has been revealed and it’s just as incredible as you’d expect.

The John Wick and The Matrix star is set to make his comic book writing debut in the form of BRZRKR, an epic saga about an immortal warrior that releases its first issue later this year.

And in more good news, it has now been announced that the story is being adapted by Netflix into both a live-action film and a follow-up anime series. Even better, Reeves himself is on board to both star in and produce the movie, while he will also lend his voice to the anime series.

To say that Keanu fans are excited would be a bit of an understatement, judging by the reactions to NX on Netflix’s tweet announcing the news.

“Exciting news! Netflix is developing a live-action film AND follow-up anime series based on Keanu Reeves’ BRZRKR, a brutally epic saga about an immortal warrior’s 80,000 year fight through the ages,” the tweet read.

“Reeves will produce and star in the film, and voice the anime.”

Reeves has written the comic, the first volume of which is due for release in the UK in November, alongside comic book writer Matt Kindt and Marvel Comics artist Ron Garney, who has worked on comics including Captain America and The Amazing Spider-Man.

BRZRKR promises to be a “brutally violent” series, which will introduce us to the half-mortal and half-God warrior known only as B. He is cursed and compelled to nothing but violence, no matter the toll the fighting takes on his sanity.

After wandering the Earth for centuries, he believes that he has finally found a purpose in working for the US government, taking on the battles that are too dangerous for anybody else to tackle.

In exchange for his services, B is due to be granted the one thing he truly desires – the truth about his endless, blood-soaked existence and the knowledge of how to end it.

Few details have yet been revealed about the movie or the anime series, but with Reeves so heavily involved, it’s hard to believe that they will be anything but thrilling.

Reeves will be returning to his iconic role as Neo in The Matrix 4 later this year, with the actor explaining that “the only reason” to make a fourth film was the “beautiful script” written by writer and director Lana Wachowski.

“Lana Wachowski wrote a beautiful script and a wonderful story that resonated with me. That’s the only reason to do it,” he said.

“To work with her again is just amazing. It’s been really special, and the story has, I think, some meaningful things to say, and that we can take some nourishment from.”
