On Thursday, a young woman accused US actor Armie Hammer of raping her four years ago in Los Angeles, and police said they were investigating the matter.
Hammer’s lawyer described the allegation as “disgraceful” and said that all of the actor’s sexual relations were “completely consensual.”
The rape allegations followed accusations by several women on social media in January of the 34-year-old actor of emotional and physical abuse.
Hamer said at the time that he would not respond to what he called “fierce attacks on the Internet,” but that his actors severed ties with him and was excluded from two Hollywood film projects.
A woman who introduced herself as Evie said in a video conference Thursday that she was in a romantic relationship that lasted four years with the actor, who was married to TV presenter Elizabeth Chambers at the time.
“On April 24, 2017, Armie Hammer violently raped me for more than four hours in Los Angeles, during which he repeatedly hit my head against the wall and bruised me on the face,” Evie, 24, told reporters.
Evie’s lawyer, Gloria Allred, said the woman had provided evidence to police.
A Los Angeles Police Department spokesman said, “Armie Hammer is the aforementioned suspect in an alleged sexual assault investigation” that opened on February 3, 2021.
Hammer’s lawyer, Andrew Brittler, said in a statement that the woman’s private correspondence with his client “undermines and refutes her outrageous allegations.”
“From day one, Mr. Hammer confirmed that all his interactions with (Evie) and every other sexual partner were completely consensual and discussed and agreed upon in advance.”
