Turkey: We will invite the “Taliban” to the Istanbul conference

The Turkish Foreign Ministry confirmed that it intends to invite a delegation of the “Taliban” movement to participate in an international conference on settling the conflict in Afghanistan, which it plans to hold in Istanbul next April.
In an interview with the Russian news agency TASS today, Thursday, Haqan Tekin, director of the South Asia department in the Turkish Foreign Ministry, said in response to a question in this regard: “Of course. The ongoing peace negotiations are being waged by the Taliban and the Afghan government. That is why we will hold a conference similar to the one hosted by Moscow.” Certainly, both sides will attend. ”

Tekin also confirmed that Turkey intends to invite Russia to participate in the conference as a “close partner,” and explained, “We will continue our consultations and coordination with the Russian side.”

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavus Ugo announced that Istanbul will host in April an international conference to advance the Afghan peace negotiations, which have stalled recently, amid mutual accusations between the Afghan government and the “Taliban” movement of not reducing the level of violence.

Today, Moscow hosted broad talks with the participation of Russia, the United States, China, Pakistan, the Afghan government and the “Taliban” as well as Qatar and Turkey, which urged a reduction in the level of violence and negotiations aimed at reaching a peace agreement that would end the crisis in Afghanistan for more than 4 decades.
