The American “New York Times” newspaper reported that James Levine, former artistic director of the American “Metropolitan Opera”, died at the age of 77.
Levine died on March 9, and his death was not announced until Wednesday.
The cause of his death has not yet been revealed, and doctors have not explained the reason for the delay in announcing the death of the maestro, while Levine was in recent years suffering from a malignant kidney tumor.
Levine is considered one of the most famous conductors of orchestras in the world in recent decades, and he worked at the “Metropolitan Opera” in New York from 1976 until 2018, when he was fired on charges of sexual assault.
Levine has also worked at the Boston Symphony Orchestra in the United States and the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra in Germany.
