Katharine McPhee and David Foster have named their son Rennie.
The 36-year-old actress welcomed her first child with her husband last month, and has now revealed the tot’s full name is Rennie David Foster as she explained they chose the moniker because it has a “long history” in David’s family.
Speaking in an upcoming appearance on ‘Today with Hoda and Jenna’ – which will air on Friday (19.03.21) – Katharine said: “Okay, well, his name, we haven’t said anything. My husband probably will kill me for saying it, but his name is Rennie David Foster. We picked Rennie because I’d actually been in labour for a while. We didn’t have a name picked out.
“We had a couple names, but my husband was on a text chain with his sisters and one of his sisters suggested an old family name. It was his great-grandfather’s name, his great-uncle’s name, so it has a long history in his family. My husband said, ‘Hi, Ren Foster,’ and so we said, ‘That’s a good name. It’s a strong name.’”
The ‘Country Comfort’ star also said life as a new mother has been “amazing” so far.
She added: “It’s the sweetest; it’s just the best. I’m in heaven. It’s really been amazing.”
Rennie’s arrival was first confirmed by a representative for Katharine and David – who married in June 2019 – on February 24.
They said at the time: “Katharine McPhee and David Foster have welcomed a healthy baby boy. Mom, Dad and son are all doing wonderfully.”
The new arrival is the first child for Katharine and first son for 71-year-old David, who already has five daughters – Allison, 50, Amy, 47, Sara, 40, Erin, 38, and Jordan, 34 – from previous relationships.
