Do we eat spiders in our sleep?

Biology doctor Sergey Reznik, senior researcher at the Institute of Zoology of the Russian Academy of Sciences, expressed his opinion about the myth of spiders, which spread on the Internet.
In an interview with Radio “Sputnik”, the scientist says, from time to time, posts appear on the Internet, confirming that every person in his life swallows in his life by chance 3-8 spiders. But in reality this is not possible.

He says, “Synthetic pillow manufacturers in the West earlier launched an“ information war ”on traditional pillows stuffed with feathers or fluff. One of the elements of this war, a fully justified assertion, was the reproduction of ticks in these pillows, not spiders. Forests, but other, completely different creatures – microscopic, not visible to the naked eye, feeding on fluff and feathers. These microscopic organisms multiply in pillows and can cause allergies to some. And when people learned that the cause of allergy was ticks, they began to use pillows and mattresses stuffed with synthetic materials for disposal. Therefore, it may be intended that a person swallows a pillow while sleeping from the pillow stuffed with feathers on which he sleeps.

Of course, he adds, it is not uncommon for a person to swallow a real spider. However, this requires certain circumstances.

“This is possible if, for example, a person sleeps in the bathroom of an abandoned village,” he says. “But in city homes and apartments this is unlikely, as there are no spiders in large numbers.”
