Several cities on the West Coast of the United States witnessed protests and riots marking the one-year anniversary of the killing of a young black woman, Briona Taylor, by security agents in Kentucky.
The American “Fox News” channel broadcasted clips from the cities of Los Angeles, Seattle and Portland, which witnessed clashes between protesters and police, with many arrests among the demonstrators.
In Los Angeles, hundreds of activists took to the streets of the city, where a group of protesters smashed a police car, as a result of which it collided with two men. While some demonstrators smashed shop windows and threw stones at police officers.
In Seattle, videos spread on social media showed police officers advancing aggressively against demonstrators.
Taylor was killed in Louisville, Kentucky, as security forces raided her apartment on suspicion of drug possession.
A court’s refusal to charge the police with the murder sparked a wave of organized protests by anti-racism activists from the Black Lives Matter Movement.
For its part, the US Federal Police said in a statement, on Saturday, that it had made “significant progress” in the case of Taylor’s murder. The official of the FBI in Louisville, Robert Brown, said he was still committed to completing the investigation “until appropriate conclusions are reached,” according to “Agence France Presse.”
