The disparities, especially in wages between women and men, which were exacerbated by the epidemic, were at the core of the protesters’ demands. According to Eurostat, women’s wages were on average 14.1% lower than men in the European Union in 2018.
The demonstrators also called for combating violence against women and the killing of women, as 90 women were killed in 2020 by their husbands or ex-husbands.
