Laura Dern spent seven minutes at Golden Globes

Laura Dern spent just seven minutes at the Golden Globe Awards.

The ‘Big Little Lies’ actress donned a Givenchy suit to appear on stage at the Beverly Hilton hotel on Sunday (28.02.21), but because of the precautions in place due to the coronavirus pandemic – which saw the winners and nominees connect via video link – she left the venue immediately after presenting the night’s first award, Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture, to Daniel Kaluuya for ‘Judas and the Black Messiah’.

Laura shared a video on Twitter in which she praised event bosses for finding a “safe way” to produce the ceremony, which was hosted by Amy Poehler in Los Angeles and Tina Fey from New York’s Rainbow Room.

She said: “So, I just went to the Golden Globe Awards. I was here all of seven minutes, I think.

“I’m honoured to be here. I’m grateful everyone’s figured out a safe way to honour such amazing art this year.

“Congratulations to Daniel Kaluuya and all of the amazing nominees. Such beautiful, incredible performances. Sending so much love and safety and wellbeing to everybody.”

Laura also shared a full-length photo of her outfit on Instagram, thanking her “dear friend” Matthew Williamson for designing the “elegant” outfit.

She wrote: “Super quick trip to the Golden Globes! Thank you to my dear friend Matthew for dressing me in such gorgeous elegance.”

The 54-year-old actress faced technical difficulties during her brief stint at the event because, after announcing Daniel as the winner, his acceptance speech was inaudible.

The camera then cut back to Laura, who said: “As you can see, we unfortunately have a bad connection. We apologise and send our congratulations to Daniel on his Golden Globe win.”

Fortunately, the issue was then resolved and Daniel was able to give a speech.
