It comes just days after Corrie’s Johnny Briggs, who played Mike Baldwin on the soap, died aged 85.
Johnny’s death was announced by his family in a statement which read: “It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our father, Johnny Briggs.
“He passed away peacefully this morning after a long illness, with family by his side. He was 85.
“We politely ask for privacy at this time, so that we can quietly grieve as a family and remember the wonderful times we had with him. Thank you,” they told The Sun Online.
Johnny was best known for his role on the Corrie cobbles as he played lothario Mike Baldwin from 1976 to 2006.
His character had a dramatic exit as he had been suffering with Alzheimer’s for months before collapsing in the street after a heart attack and dying in the arms of Ken.
He appeared in a charity special for the soap as a ghost in 2012.
