A well-known company that carries out the most expensive recall of cars from the market due to a fatal defect

A famous South Korean car company decided to withdraw 82,000 electric cars from different parts of the world to replace their batteries, after 15 reports that they caused vehicles to burn.

Although the number is small for a company the size of “Hyundai”, it will be one of the most expensive car recalls in history, according to “CNN”.
The recall reflects the disadvantages of electric vehicles that could lead to prohibitive costs for carmakers, at least in the near future.

The recall will cost Hyundai a trillion won, or the equivalent of $ 900 million, and, on a per vehicle basis, the average cost would be $ 11,000 – a large astronomical figure.

Replacing the entire battery is a difficult procedure, requiring as much work and expense as replacing an entire engine for a conventional internal combustion vehicle. Completely replacing the engine in gasoline-powered vehicles is uncommon.

A recall that costs more than $ 11,000 per vehicle is extremely rare, although the exact numbers are not available because most car manufacturers do not disclose the cost of their recalls, according to the network.

The CNN report said that since gasoline-powered cars are much more than electric vehicles, the total cost of these recall operations could exceed $ 900 million. No one was injured in any of the Hyundai fires, most of which occurred after the cars were closed, and the company said that an investigation showed that the defective car battery cells made by “LG” could cause a short circuit. The recall includes “Konas”, “Ionic” and “Ilik City” models.
