A famous Turkish actor and writer faces a prison sentence for “insulting” Erdogan

Famous Turkish comedian and writer, Mojdet Gizan, who has been nominated as a Goodwill Ambassador to the United Nations, faces imprisonment for “insulting” Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
In a telephone interview with Agence France-Presse, Ghizan joked: “My name was prevented from appearing in the crossword puzzle.”

The Turkish authorities had issued a decision to prosecute the comedian and his colleague, Metin Akpinar, 79 years old, due to comments they made during a television program on the opposition Halk TV channel, where Gizan directed Erdogan, saying: “You cannot, Rajab. Okay Erdogan, for you to test our patriotism … Know your limits. ”

While Akpinar is being persecuted, after he said: “If we fail to achieve democracy, the leader may end up hanging by his feet, or poisoned in a basement, as happened in all fascist regimes,” which led to the resentment of Erdogan, who is accused by human rights defenders. Human beings have adopted authoritarianism, especially since the attempted coup against him in 2016, according to “France Press”.

The public prosecutor has demanded a sentence of up to four years and eight months in prison for the comedians.
