Today, Wednesday, a source in the Iraqi Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) denied the relationship of the Hashd and the armed Shiite factions in targeting Erbil airport.
The source said, “The Popular Mobilization Forces and the armed Shiite factions have nothing to do with the bombing of Erbil airport two days ago, especially since the bombing was from within the borders of the Kurdistan region.”
He added, “The factions were surprised by what happened, and there was communication between them regarding the knowledge of the party that carried out this operation and did not know it until now.”
The source referred to the meeting that brought together the President of the Republic, Barham Salih, and the Chief of Staff of the Hashd, Abdulaziz al-Muhammadawi, and spoke about some of its details.
He emphasized that “Saleh sent an invitation to the Muhammadawi known as (Abu Fadak) and discussed what happened in Erbil, and they indicated the importance of calming the atmosphere and searching for those involved in the incident.”
The source added, “The aim of the meeting was to send a positive message from the crowd and vice versa.”
Yesterday, Erbil airport was targeted by mortar shells, which is the second attack on it after it was exposed to mortar shelling last September, and Kurdish leaders at the time accused the Popular Mobilization Forces of being behind the operation.
