Seoul: Pyongyang is expanding its missile facilities, and there are no unusual indications at the nuclear sites

The South Korean Defense Ministry said that its northern neighbor has expanded its missile development facilities, but has not detected any unusual signs at the previously demolished nuclear test site.

This assessment came in a report that the ministry presented to the Parliamentary Defense Committee, at the policy briefing session.

The ministry said, “No special moves have been detected since May 24, 2018, when North Korea destroyed the” Bongi-ri “nuclear test site, and the 5-megawatt nuclear reactor in the Yongbyon nuclear complex has been suspended for a long time,” referring to The main nuclear reactor used to make plutonium for nuclear weapons.

“North Korea is expanding its missile research and development facilities,” the ministry added.

The ministry added that North Korea has tightened its land and sea defense position near the border since late last year, and has conducted regular military exercises.

The report stated that “to prevent accidents and limit the spread of the epidemic, the forces conduct training in all places where they are stationed.”

The ministry said South Korea is closely monitoring North Korea’s military moves and maintains a strict standby posture, and pledged to take strong measures against any possible provocations.

Also during the briefing, the Department stressed again its quest for the rapid restoration of wartime military operations command from the United States.
