“We received the report from our team on the ground in Tigray, and the team unfortunately confirmed that the rape occurred categorically and without doubt,” said Ethiopian Minister of Women, Filsan Abdullah, on Twitter late Thursday evening.
Although witnesses, medics, and aid workers have reported widespread sexual assaults since the fighting began in November, Felsan’s comments were the first confirmation of this from Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s government.
