The January 26 earthquake in Granada damages the Alhambra Palace

The administration of the Alhambra Palace and the Corporal in Granada, Spain, said that the recent earthquake and its aftershocks caused cracks in the Vanguard Tower without affecting the structure of this historical landmark.

She explained that the technicians immediately began the works of reinforcing the tower, which is known in Spain as “La Torre de Las Gallinas” (La Torre de Las Gallinas), while the administrative authority decided to close the “La Cuesta del Rey Chico” crossing (Aqaba of the Little King (Abu Abdullah Al-Nasri) )) Pending a thorough examination by experts to determine the extent of the impact of earthquakes on them, after the appearance of some cracks, and to make sure that there are no risks of collapse.

The earthquakes that struck Granada on January 26 caused damages of varying importance to homes in the historic Albayzín neighborhood, adjacent to the Alhambra Palace and its towers, and throughout the city.

The city of Granada had previously been subjected to stronger earthquakes throughout history, but the high efficiency with which the Alhambra Palace was built, which overlooks the city from above the “Hamra Hill”, during the Andalusian Islamic era, allowed the palace to withstand for many centuries and to overcome the light damage that was inflicted on it as it happened.
