The President of the European Council does not exclude accreditation certificates that are free of Corona as a condition for travel

European Council President Charles Michel did not rule out the approval of certificates of vaccination against Corona in the European Union, and the travel ban for those who did not receive the vaccine, indicating that this issue needs an in-depth study.

The council’s media office released excerpts from his interview with Michel, the Dutch public television, including his saying that the subject of certificates is sensitive for some European countries that may interpret support for the certification as evidence of the Union’s efforts to make vaccination mandatory, “while many countries consider it preferable. Keep vaccination voluntary. ”

Michel added that this thorny issue will be discussed by the leaders of the European Union next week, noting that there are two tracks for this discussion, the first of which is whether the EU countries accept the approval of the vaccination certificate or not, and the second is when it can be adopted. He added, “It is quite clear to me that if we agree to this principle, more people must undergo vaccination before that becomes appropriate.”

Earlier, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen welcomed the idea of adopting a vaccination certificate recognized in all countries of the Union, but indicated the need to study the possibility of this document granting additional rights to its owner, including the right to travel.
