Drew Barrymore admits she ‘didn’t cope’ with getting divorced for the third time

Drew Barrymore has spoken candidly about the ongoing pain and messiness of divorce, four years after separating from her third husband.

The actress, film producer and beauty entrepreneur married fellow actor and art advisor Will Kopelman in 2012. They divorced in 2016 and now amicably co-parent their two children together.

In a new interview with the New York Times, Barrymore admitted that the separation has been difficult to process and she has suffered anxiety, depression and panic attacks.

‘Nothing I have ever been through compared to this divorce,’ she said. ‘This was the first big thing that I went through that was involving a few people I care about far more than myself. I was depressed for like five years. I wasn’t coping with it very well.’

She said time has helped, along with taking anti-depressants each day and throwing herself into hosting her new TV chat show, The Drew Barrymore Show, in the US.

Barrymore has tried dating apps, but ‘just got blown off a lot’ by people she matched with who ‘never followed through’.

Although she’d like to met someone, taking an enforced break from dating due to the pandemic has shown her that she’s happy on her own, she says.

‘I’ve never known this level of contentment,’ the former child star told the newspaper. ‘This is new territory for me and I just don’t want to screw it up.’
