Arnold Schwarzenegger has confessed that he didn’t expect his daughter Katherine Schwarzenegger to marry Marvel star Chris Pratt.
Author Katherine married Guardians of the Galaxy and Avengers actor Pratt in a small ceremony in June 2019 and they welcomed their first child together, daughter Lyla, in August 2020.
Making a surprise appearance during a 30th anniversary virtual reunion with the cast of his 1990 action comedy movie Kindergarten Cop for Yahoo! Entertainment, iconic actor Arnie revealed that working with so many young children on the movie helped him to become a better parent to his own children.
He also admitted his surprise that Katherine chose to marry an actor after being brought up by one and spending so much time on set.
“This movie really helped me become a better parent myself with my kids,” he said. “After that [Katherine] was born in 1990. She was then one year old. And then subsequently after that I had another few kids. And so it really helped me raise my kids.”
Going on to speak about his family in more detail, the Terminator star praised Katherine for being a “winner” and said that he is “really proud” of her.
“I never, ever thought that my daughter is going to marry an actor,” he admitted. “I said to myself she probably will be sick and tired of me dragging her to the sets and always having them watch me blowing up buildings and killing people and all this stuff.”
But despite his surprise the actor certainly isn’t unhappy with Katherine’s choice of husband, praising his son-in-law for being “wonderful”.
“Now she married an actor, and Chris is a fantastic guy and so easy to get along with and so I’m really happy because he has been such a really wonderful, wonderful husband to her and such a great son-in-law,” he said.
Lyla’s birth also made Arnie a grandfather for the first time and the actor revealed that he has been loving the attention that he has been getting since his granddaughter’s arrival.
“I got hundreds of congratulations and gifts and all kinds of stuff and I said, ‘Wait a minute, I didn’t do anything, I have nothing to do with it’,” he said. “So this is why it’s great to be a grandfather because you get all the credit and you get so many gifts and so many good wishes and all this stuff but you have no responsibility.”
