Lady Gaga’s next movie just got even more high profile with the addition of yet another Academy Award-winning star.
Deadline reports that veteran Hollywood actor Jeremy Irons has been tapped to join Gucci, the Ridley Scott-directed film centering on the plot to assassinate Maurizio Gucci in 1995 at the hands of his ex-wife Patrizia Reggiani.
Gaga, 34, will portray Reggiani, while the cast of the film also includes fellow Oscar winners Robert De Niro, Al Pacino and Jared Leto.
Other A-list stars rumored to be part of the ensemble include Adam Driver, Jack Huston and Reeve Carney.
While the role to be played by Irons, 72, has yet to be confirmed, it is assumed he will portray a member of the Gucci dynasty.
Jeremy is the voice behind villainous Scar in the Disney animated classic The Lion King from 1994, and has also appeared in films such as David Cronenberg’s Dead Ringers in 1988, as well as more recently in HBO’s acclaimed Watchmen as well as Justice League, as Alfred.
He won the Oscar for Best Actor in 1991, for his role opposite Glenn Close in Reversal Of Fortune.
Gucci is Lady Gaga’s first major film role since her 2018 blockbuster A Star Is Born, for which she nabbed an Academy Award for Best Original Song as well as a nomination for Best Actress.
She is also rumored to be a part of the Brad Pitt vehicle Bullet Train, which is currently filming.
Reggiani, Gaga’s character in Gucci, served 18 years in jail for her ex-husband’s assassination plot – originally having been sentenced to 29 years.
She was let out of jail in 2016.
Lady G will be back in front of cameras in the spring, when shooting on Gucci begins in March in Italy.
