Trapped under the ground for a week … and they ask for “pickles”

56

Chinese official media reported, Tuesday, that workers trapped for more than a week in a Chinese gold mine had asked to throw pickles and porridges at them while they waited for rescue forces.

The website of the daily “Al-Shaab” newspaper on the Internet said that the request came after a telephone line was dropped for the 11 workers inside Room No. 6 of the mine, according to “France Press”.

Officials in Yantai City, Shandong Province, east China, said that another survivor of the mine explosion a week ago is still in an adjacent room, while the fate of 10 others is still unknown.

The People’s Daily reported that two miners are recovering from exhaustion and another was injured in the blast that tore apart the mine on January 10th.
In the Mayor of Yantai, Chen noted at a press conference Tuesday morning that medicines, food and fluids were delivered twice to the workers, which would last for at least two days.

“Their general physical condition looks very good,” Chen said.
