Planning a wedding is stressful for anyone, but throw in a set of mega-famous parents, a billionaire father and a controversial prenup, and the stress levels are most likely hitting maximum. It was reported last week that Brooklyn Beckham and his fiancée Nicola Peltz have signed a prenuptial agreement, which means they would leave the marriage “with what they put into it” should they split up. And an insider close to the Beckham family tells us it’s been the source of quite the family drama.
“They haven’t even set a date yet, but the prenup has already been signed– and it’s watertight,” an insider tells heat. “Brooklyn and Nicola are pretty frustrated with both sets of parents – they feel like they’re trying to turn this into a ‘business deal’ – one which they apparently don’t have a lot of faith in.”
Aspiring photographer Brooklyn, 21, and model/actress Nicola, 25, only started dating in October 2019, but they announced their engagement in July this year. Nicola’s father Nelson is ranked as one of the world’s richest business people, having amassed a $1.7billion fortune. And with prenuptial agreements being more common in the US than in the UK, it’s hardly surprising that Nelson would want to protect his daughter’s finances.
“As soon as the engagement celebrations were over, Nicola’s dad set the lawyers to work to draft the agreement, and called David to discuss it,” our source reveals. “Nelson is a shrewd businessman with a vast empire, so it’s understandable. It’s not that he’s got anything against Brooklyn, but he has to be sensible and this is how a lot of marriages work in America – especially if there’s a lot of money involved.”
The source continues, “From the Beckhams’ side of things, they’re less worried about cash and more concerned about family secrets being leaked. They obviously trust Nicola, but they want to protect the family’s privacy should anything go wrong, so they’re keen on including a non-disclosure agreement.”
