Saudi officials discuss advancing human rights

Dr. Abdullah bin Nasser Abu Thunain, deputy minister of human resources and social development for labor, met Dr. Hisham bin Abdulrahman Al-Sheikh, deputy chairman of the Kingdom’s Human Rights Commission, in Riyadh on Wednesday.

During the meeting, they discussed the partnership between their respective entities and agreed on initiatives to advance human rights in areas of mutual concern.

These initiatives encompass enhancing worker protection, combating human trafficking and domestic violence, and advocating for the rights of vulnerable groups such as the elderly, families, children, and people with special needs.

Both men also explored strategies to bolster the rights of these sectors of society and develop joint mechanisms for monitoring the welfare of social services beneficiaries.

They discussed conducting studies and research related to the competencies of each entity and methods of addressing complaints.

Abu Thunain underscored the paramount importance of upholding human rights, citing it as a cornerstone of the country’s leadership.

He lauded the collaborative efforts between the ministry and the Human Rights Commission, which have played a pivotal role in combating human trafficking and domestic violence, in addition to promoting the rights of community groups supported by the ministry and protecting the rights of workers in the labor market.
