Lee Mead had ‘very stressful’ year as cancelled work left him living off savings

Lee Mead has shared it’s been “a tough year” for him financially due to work being cancelled because of the pandemic.

With no money coming in, the 39-year-old actor and singer has been using his savings to get by but he’s found the situation “very stressful”.

He told The Sun: “It’s been a tough year financially, as everything was pulled, including a tour, cruises and corporate work, so I’ve literally had no financial income all year and I’ve pretty much lived off savings.

“I’ve really missed being on stage too, so there have been some low periods.”

The star, who first found fame on talent show Any Dream Will Do, shares one daughter Betsy with ex-wife Denise van Outen.

Mead said he had been supported by his family as well as his current partner.

He said: “It’s been very stressful, I’m not going to lie, but my family and my partner Izzy have been an amazing support.”

Just months before lockdown, Mead left his role as Ben “Lofty” Chiltern on BBC soap Holby City, having also played the same character on its sister-show Casualty.

He said he “slightly regretted” his decision in the wake of all the cancelled jobs he had line-up for this year but has now returned to work with a new Christmas song, In My Arms for Christmas.
