Lebanese singer Elissa has been named as one of the 50 most influential figures on Twitter, according to US social media intelligence company Brandwatch, and is the only Arab personality to make the list.

Brandwatch annually lists 50 of the most influential people on Twitter, gathered from data from the social media platform. The results are generated from the number of followers, retweets, and replies from the key figures, however is mostly determined by the genuine level of engagement they create with other Twitter users.

The 2020 edition sees Elissa rank as the 45th most influential figure, alongside Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Selena Gomez, Michelle and Barack Obama, Oprah, Lady Gaga, Kim Kardashian, and Harry Styles, who also feature on the list. Donald Trump, widely known as an active Twitter user, is ranked as the number one influential figure on the site.

Elissa took to Twitter to share her pride as being named as part of the list.

Lebanese star often tweets in English, Arabic, and sometimes Spanish. She is known to use the platform in a personable way, commenting on all of her life achievements, including her battle with breast cancer, as well as frequently touching on her life in Lebanon. Her devotion to the social media channel has allowed her to develop a loyal following, with more 15 million Twitter followers.

The 48-year-old icon has been one of the highest-selling female artists in the Middle East since 2005 and regarded as one of Lebanon’s most famous singers. She has recently used her social media reach in order to raise funds and support Beruit after the August port explosion. “I have the best fans in the world,” she tweeted in August, at the end of an online drive to raise funds for the city’s recovery. “Each of you is giving what he can, and your donations are the most beautiful thing that happened since August 4. I love you all so much.”
