Russian artist accuses Egyptian artist of stealing his paintings

Russian artist Georgy Korasov accused an Egyptian artist of stealing his artwork, which he was surprised to find on the walls of a metro station in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, bearing the name of the Egyptian artist.

In a statement to “Novosti”, Korasov said that the Egyptian artist, Ghada Wali, “made a collage of my paintings on the computer, cut out the shapes and made their own composition from them, flipped some shapes in a mirror and changed their color.”

He added that Wali “added very famous pictures (not his) of the winged goddess and Isis, the rest was taken from me.”

And he added, “This is very amazing, because I do not copy ancient Egyptian photos, I create my works in a stylized manner as old, and I think the owner of the photos in the metro thought that I also copy old photos.”

He indicated that he resorted to lawyers to help him protect his rights.

The artworks are four works that decorated the walls of the “Kolyat Al Banat” metro station, east of the Egyptian capital, which opened in 2014.
