Andrey Vasilievsky, CEO of the Russian company “SberAutoTech”, a leading technology and development of unmanned vehicles, stressed that the company is currently focusing its priorities on the development of driverless trucks, and not driverless cars, explaining the reasons.
In statements to “Sputnik”, Vasilievsky said, on the sidelines of the Russian industrial exhibition “Innoprom-2022” held in Yekaterinburg, that “technological processes with the aim of creating unmanned (driverless) vehicles have been greatly developed in the Russian Federation, to the extent that in 5 years For the next 10, we will see driverless vehicles on Russia’s roads,” stressing that these vehicles “are no longer an experimental product, but a high-quality transportation service that has been created.”
The CEO of the Russian company “SberAutoTech” continued, explaining that, first of all, “these will be unmanned vehicles for the transportation of goods. With the transportation of people, if we are talking about unmanned cars (driverless taxis), there are more difficulties, and there is a need for A number of organizational decisions are here.”
On the reasons for focusing on trucks, Vasilevsky indicated that this is related to some aspects, including ethical:
“Release of unmanned trucks is easier: sensitive ethical issues in developing appropriate software for driving this vehicle are not as acute (difficult) as driverless passenger cars. As you know, the difficulty lies in choosing priority, whose lives should be saved in the event of an accident: a driverless taxi passenger Driver or pedestrian. The answer, of course, is to keep both (passenger and pedestrian) alive. But so far there is no clear answer that can guide us when writing (developing) the appropriate program for unmanned taxis. In addition, there is also an aspect Social: The lack of truck drivers, which is observed not only in our country. Therefore, unmanned trucks may partially solve this personnel problem.”

Vasilevsky, CEO of the Russian company “SberAutoTech” stressed that there is no need in the Russian Federation about the withdrawal of Western electronics and software giants from the Russian market, indicating that their withdrawal will not cause a slowdown in the country’s technological process, and said:
“In any industry, especially in the field of high technology, information exchange is very important. There is no need to be a closed company trying to reinvent some bikes. Our company now continues an international dialogue with a number of leading universities in the world to attract specialists to create technological products New”.

“In addition, Russia is one of the few countries where there are a lot of software solutions. It is easy to see on the Internet: compare the local services (in Russia) that we have and which ones with similar ones in Europe. Yes, in In a year it is impossible to replace corporate giants such as Intel or AMD, whose experience has accumulated for decades. But there is potential for Russian developers and specialists in the field of electronics, it exists and is growing and developing, and in the future we can certainly provide for ourselves in full domestic processors, chips and software high quality”.
