The US Special Representative for North Korea, Sung Kim, has expressed Washington’s readiness for diplomatic cooperation with Pyongyang without preconditions, noting that his country has not yet received a positive reaction from Pyongyang.

“The United States has always stated clearly that it aims to engage in dialogue with Pyongyang without preconditions,” Sung Kim told reporters during a special press conference on the situation on the Korean Peninsula.

According to him, so far Washington has not received a positive reaction to such a proposal. In addition, Sung Kim noted that Pyongyang has not responded to US appeals delivered through third-party mediation, and has not expressed any interest in establishing a dialogue between the two countries.

Meanwhile, the US special representative stressed that Washington does not set any artificial deadlines, after which interaction with the DPRK becomes impossible.

On Sunday, North Korea fired eight short-range ballistic missiles from a number of locations toward the Sea of Japan, in the DPRK’s 18th missile test since the beginning of the year. As reported by “Yonhap News Agency”, citing the South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff, in response, South Korea and the United States conducted missile launches.
