Russia celebrates its language

83

Every year on June 6, the birthday of the great Russian poet, Alexander Pushkin (1799-1837), Russia celebrates the Day of the Russian Language.

This day became an official holiday in 2011 after it was established by the United Nations within the framework of the program to support the six major United Nations languages, which are English, Chinese, French, Spanish, Arabic and Russian.
It is noteworthy that the Russian language is one of the world’s largest and most popular Slavic languages, spoken by 146 million people in Russia and 127 million who consider it their second language. The Russian language occupies a second place in terms of its prevalence on the World Wide Web.

It is worth noting that Russia celebrates on June 6 the 223th anniversary of the birth of the great Russian poet Alexander Pushkin, who is truly the prince of Russian poets and one of the founders of the contemporary Russian literary language.

On this day, festive events are held every year in the Pushkin Museum in Moscow and other cultural squares throughout Russia.

The program of celebrations at the “Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts” in Moscow includes literary evenings, which include meetings with writers, exhibitions and other events, which can be attended for free on this day.

As for the book fair “Red Square”, which concludes on June 6, it holds a special program in honor of Alexander Pushkin. On this day, events related to Alexander Pushkin are held in all Russian libraries.
