“Gazprom” will stop gas supplies to two European companies as of tomorrow

Gazprom announced today, Tuesday, that, starting from tomorrow, June 1, it will stop deliveries to Shell Energy Europe in Germany and to Denmark’s Ørsted, for not receiving payments from them by the end of today, May 31 .
And the company’s statement said: “The Danish company Ørsted informed Gazpromexport that it does not intend to make payments for gas supplied in rubles … and Shell Energy Europe does not intend … to make payments under the contract for the supply of gas to Germany in rubles. “.
The statement added: “By the end of the working day on May 31 [the deadline for payment stipulated in the contract], Gazprom Export had not received payment from Ørsted … and from Shell Energy Europe for gas supplies in April… In this regard, Gazprom Export notified Ørsted… and Shell Energy Europe to suspend gas supplies as of June 1, 2022.”
Russian President Vladimir Putin announced during a government meeting on March 31 that the new rules for selling Russian gas to “unfriendly countries” require payment for gas in Russian rubles; Customers in these countries are required to open accounts in Russian currency in Russian banks, in response to Western sanctions against Russia over its ongoing military operation in Ukraine.
