NATO deploys its response forces against the backdrop of Russia’s operation in Ukraine

Today, Monday, the NATO Military Committee announced its decision to deploy elements of its response forces in the framework of collective defense, against the backdrop of developments in the situation in Ukraine.

“NATO’s defense plans have been activated, and as a result, for the first time, elements of the NATO Response Force are deployed in the context of common defence,” the committee said in a statement published in Brussels today, following an emergency meeting.

The statement also stated that the Chiefs of General Staff (of NATO member states) discussed NATO’s future strategy in the field of deterrence and defence, as well as ongoing activities to ensure vigilance in all areas and in all territories.
