Foreign envoys are usually summoned by the Vatican’s Secretary of State, or in order to meet the Pope in the Apostolic Palace.

However, according to “Reuters”, Pope Francis himself went to the Russian embassy in the Vatican today, Friday, in an unprecedented departure from diplomatic protocol.
Vatican spokesman Matteo Bruni said the pope spent about 30 minutes in the embassy near the Vatican.
While Bruni confirmed that the Pope “went to express his concern about the war,” he did not comment on media reports indicating that the Pope offered mediation from the Vatican.
It is believed to be the first time the Pope has gone to an embassy to speak with an ambassador at a time of conflict.
The Ukrainian ambassador to the Vatican, Andrei Yurash, had confirmed that Kiev would be open to the mediation of the Vatican in the conflict with Russia.
It is noteworthy that Russian President Vladimir Putin had announced, earlier today, Thursday, the launch of a special military operation in Donbass, southeastern Ukraine, following the official request of the Donetsk and Lugansk Republics for Russia’s support in confronting the Ukrainian army.

Putin stressed that his country does not plan to occupy Ukrainian territory, but is trying to protect people who, for eight years, have been subjected to mistreatment and genocide by the Kiev regime, pointing out that all Russia’s attempts to reach an agreement on the non-expansion of NATO have failed.

The Russian Ministry of Defense had announced that the Russian Armed Forces had disrupted the military infrastructure of Ukrainian air bases, and had silenced Ukrainian air defenses.
It noted that its forces do not carry out any missile, air or artillery attacks on Ukrainian cities; She stressed that the military infrastructure, air defense facilities, military airports and aviation of the Ukrainian Armed Forces are being targeted with precision weapons.
