After suffering from constant pain in her stomach for 20 years, a Bangladeshi woman was shocked to discover that she had spent that time with forgotten surgical scissors in her stomach after undergoing surgery in 2002.

The website “kompas” reported that 55-year-old Pachina Khatun has been suffering from persistent abdominal pain since she underwent a gallstone removal operation at a clinic in Shwadanga in 2002.

The news site indicated that the woman began to feel pain in her stomach two days after the operation.

He explained that Pacina returned to the clinic where she performed the operation, but her surgeon who supervised her, ignored her concerns, and assured her that the pain was normal and she should not worry, but he and his medical team were wrong.

Pacina kept going from one doctor to another, explaining that the surgery left her in constant pain, but all she received was medication to relieve symptoms, the Bangladeshi website RM.

Over the years, the Bengali woman was forced to sell two cows, the last she owned, to pay for treatment and medicine in the hope of relieving the pain, but all her efforts were in vain and her stomach pain became unbearable.

And last week she went to the doctor and underwent an x-ray, which revealed that she had probably forgotten surgical scissors in her stomach from her cholecystectomy 20 years ago.

Pachina Khatun was admitted to Shwadanga Sadar Hospital, as doctors struggled to control her diabetes, which also affects her, in order to safely perform the scissors removal procedure, which she performed last Monday and is now recovering.

The surgeon, Jawaharul Islam, who rescued Pachina, stated that a three-member committee was formed to investigate how the surgical scissors remained inside the patient’s abdomen for so long.
