Britain’s Prince Charles, in his largest exhibition of watercolors yet, described the restorative benefits of art, saying it “transfers it to another dimension”.
The heir to the British throne continued that drawing “is one of the most relaxing and therapeutic exercises I know,” noting that his hobby “revives parts of the soul that other activities cannot reach.”

The prince’s new exhibition brings together 79 of the prince’s landscape paintings. The works on display in London until mid-February show scenes from the French countryside, the Scottish Highlands and Tanzania, and are “one of the prince’s favorite places to paint,” according to a press release issued by his educational charity The. Prince’s Foundation.

He was quoted as saying, “I was completely immersed in painting because I found photography less than satisfactory…Simply put, I felt an overwhelming desire to express what I saw through the medium of watercolors, and to convey this inner sense…almost of texture, which is impossible to achieve through photography.” .

According to his official website, the prince, like his grandmother, Queen Victoria I, is an “enthusiastic watercolorist… who paints whenever his schedule permits.”

Prince admitted in the exhibition script that he was “appalled at how bad his early works were”.

He continued, “I don’t have the illusion that my drawings represent great art or a burgeoning talent! They represent, more than anything else, my own look from the photo album, and therefore, they represent a lot to me.”

Although the prince does not sell his watercolors, lithographs of his works are used to raise money for his charitable fund, according to CNN.
