The Confederation of African Football (CAF) responded, on Wednesday, to reports that CAF intends to cancel the next edition of the African Cup of Nations.
The Director of Operations and Media Relations in the African Union, Lux September, said through his personal account on “Twitter”, “All the news that talked about the cancellation of the 2022 African Cup of Nations, is false and false news.”
He added, “Not a single meeting took place in which the cancellation of the tournament was discussed, we all know the source of that false information, from pressure groups (lobby) that always underestimate Africa, we know them.”
And French media had claimed, earlier on Wednesday, that there is a possibility to cancel the 2021 African Cup of Nations, which is scheduled to be held in Cameroon during the period from January 9 to February 6, 2022, according to Sputnik.
She stated that there is a state of uncertainty about the inevitability of holding the African Nations Cup due to the spread of the Corona pandemic, noting that the Confederation of African Football is facing the discontent of some clubs, which want to be able to keep players on their soil in the coming weeks.
A letter sent by the European Club Association to FIFA and the Confederation of African Football (CAF), revealed its unwillingness to send African players professional in Europe to the African Nations Championship.
In the letter, she confirmed that she had no intention of allowing her players to participate in the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations. And I asked the officials of “FIFA” and “CAF” to take a radical decision in the face of the epidemic.
Cameroon is scheduled to host the Africa Cup of Nations early next year, from January 9 to February 6.
