Guardians of the Galaxy favourite Chris Pratt has addressed his Super Mario Bros casting.

It was announced this week that he, Charlie Day, Anya Taylor-Joy, Jack Black, Seth Rogen, Keegan-Michael Key and original actor Charles Martinet were onboard the animated movie adaptation as voices.

Uploading a candid video to Instagram on Friday, Pratt briefly reminisced about his history with the popular game.

“So as a kid I lived in Lake Stevens, Washington, and there was this coin-operated laundromat near my house, and it had Super Mario Bros – the original arcade game.

“Oh I loved that game. I never had a quarter, [it] felt like,” he added, before chuckling over the fact he used to steal coins from the “wishing well”.

“That’s wild! It’s just dawned on me right now… the quarter I stole out of the wishing well to play Super Mario Bros has come true that I get to be the voice of Super Mario, but I clearly stole someone else’s wish.

“So just waiting for that row of karmic dominoes to come crashing down on me.”

Illumination, the studio behind Minions, is producing this one alongside Nintendo and Universal.

“Mario and Luigi are two of the most beloved heroes in all of popular culture, and we are honoured to have the unique opportunity to work so closely with Shigeru Miyamoto and the widely imaginative team at Nintendo to bring these characters to life in an animated movie, unlike any film Illumination has made to date,” commented Illumination’s Chris Meledandri.
