A competitor to “Netflix” announces the development of its applications for smart TVs

The American digital platform “HBO Max” is preparing to take a step that may pose a real threat to its most important competitor, “Netflix”.

An executive at Warner Media, which owns HBO Max, told Vulture that the latter’s team is in the process of replacing all of its applications on smart TVs with a completely new version.
The official, who declined to be named, said the plan is scheduled to be implemented within the next four to five months.

And about the arrangement of the arrival of the updated “HBO Max” application, the official said that the beginning will be with owners of “Roku” and “Playstation” devices, then users of “Apple TV” near the end of 2021, while smartphone and web viewers will have to wait until Early next year 2022 to receive it.

HBO Max applications on smart TVs continued to suffer from several serious flaws, most notably broken playback controls, forgotten settings, and finally slow performance.

The revamp of HBO Max should provide both a modern foundation and, most importantly, more room for the growth of the US digital platform.

The executive said the new app wouldn’t look much different at first, but should allow for a more “sophisticated” update of the interface, as well as new and updated features.

HBO Max’s move on its smart TV applications comes as the TV broadcasting space increasingly expands with other competing platforms, such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Paramount Plus and Peacock.
