The film “Captain Volkonov’s Escape” by Russian directors Natalia Merkulova and Alexei Chubov joined the main program of the Venice International Film Festival.
This was announced Monday, July 26, on the festival’s website.
The film tells the story of a former security officer wanted by the police as a criminal who committed a felony and the police are trying to arrest him. The officer decided to escape, then repented of his crimes and misdemeanours, and asked for forgiveness from those who had offended him. The main role in the dramatic film was played by the actor Yura Borisov, who is known for his participation in the filming of “Kalashnikov” and “The Red Ghost”.

It is noteworthy that Natalia Merkulova and Alexei Chubov had directed the drama “The Man Who Surprised Everyone”, which was shown in the “Horizons” program of the Venice Film Festival in 2018, where Natalia won the award for best female role.

It is worth noting that the 78th Venice Film Festival will be held on the island of Lido from 1-11 September. The main program of the festival includes 20 films, including the latest film directed by, Pedro Almodóvar.

The jury will be chaired by South Korean director Boon Joon-ho, who is known for his directing “Parasites”, which won the 2019 Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival.
