WHO: Delta strain of coronavirus discovered in 111 countries and territories

The World Health Organization announced that the number of countries and territories in which the highly contagious “delta” strain of the emerging coronavirus is spreading increased from July 6 to 13 by seven, and reached 111 countries.
And the World Health Organization’s weekly epidemiological bulletin says: “The (SARS-Cove-2) virus continues to spread and evolve,” it was confirmed that the four strains classified as “variants of concern” are “alpha”, “beta”, “gamma” and “Delta”, showing “severe infection”.

And the World Health Organization reported that “the delta variant has been detected in at least 111 countries in all six WHO regions, in the past two months, and it is more contagious than other worrisome variants identified so far,” noting that this variant of Likely to become the dominant option in the world in the coming months.

Moreover, due to the spread of this strain, it is expected that there will be an increase in morbidity and “increased pressure on health systems, especially in the context of low immunization coverage”.

And last week until July 6, the Delta strain that specialists have known since October 2020 after its discovery in India, spread to 104 countries and entities, and a week earlier to 96 countries and entities.

The World Health Organization has published data on outbreaks of coronavirus strains in 196 countries and territories. From this data it is clear that the mutated virus “Delta” is hovering over most of the planet.

In particular, it has been recognized, in addition to India, in Russia, Britain, Germany, Greece, Spain, Turkey, France, Indonesia, Thailand, Japan, Israel, Brazil, the United States and South Africa.

There is also information about his presence in China, although according to the epidemiological bulletin, this information “was obtained by the World Health Organization from unofficial sources, and it will be analyzed further.” At the same time, the organization does not currently have data on the presence of the delta variant in Iceland, Egypt, Montenegro and Cuba, as well as in a number of other countries and territories totaling 85.

The World Health Organization did not explain in the epidemiological bulletin, the reason for the entry of the Delta strain and other strains into some countries and its absence in others.

At the same time, the organization notes that some countries have recently eased restrictions related to the epidemic, while the movement of the population and communication, including “meetings of small and large groups”, is increasing, and the number of trips imposed by extreme necessity has increased.

The World Health Organization stated that “improper planning or assessment of the risk of transmission during meetings and trips creates opportunities for the virus to spread.”

The organization points to the study’s data, which states that individual and group measures to protect against infection “remain effective” against particularly dangerous strains.

In this regard, the World Health Organization draws attention to the fact that the gaps in the application of epidemiological surveillance, testing and other measures related to the control of corona infection “are eliminating the achievements made so far in controlling the epidemic.”

In addition to the Delta strain, the World Health Organization is concerned about three other types of coronavirus that belong to the class of volatile organic compounds. The alpha variant, which was first detected in September 2020 in the UK, was present in 178 countries as of July 13.

The beta variant, which was discovered in South Africa in August last year, is present in 123 countries, and the gamma variant, which was discovered in September in Brazil, expanded its geography from 74 to 75 countries in seven days.

The World Health Organization also stressed that “the health risks associated with (Covid-19) disease are still very high,” and the infections, which had decreased earlier during the past two months, increased during the past week by 10%, and in seven days, about 3 million new infections in the world. At the same time, the number of deaths increased by 3%, and more than 55,000 of them were recorded within a week.

According to the statistics of the World Health Organization until July 13, 187,085,093 cases of coronavirus infection have been identified in the world since the beginning of the epidemic, and 4,042,921 deaths have been recorded.
