The combination of calcium and vitamin D may lead to stroke

48

Taking supplements has become a habit for most people.

However, a 2019 meta-analysis from Johns Hopkins University found that taking too many vitamins does not increase life expectancy, nor does it reduce the risk of heart disease or stroke. However, combining two popular supplements can have the exact opposite effect.

In particular, taking calcium with vitamin D increases the risk of stroke by 17 percent.

Scientists analyzed twenty studies to evaluate the combination of calcium and vitamin D. More than 42,000 people participated in the study. Of these, 3.7,000 had a stroke. A similar conclusion was reached in 2016 in a study published in Osteoporosis International.
