A source close to Juventus President Andrea Agnelli said today, Wednesday, that the proposed European League will no longer exist without the six English clubs that have withdrawn.

In response to a question by “Agence France Presse” whether the Super League would stop without the English clubs, the source replied in the affirmative, the day after the withdrawal of Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea, Tottenham and Arsenal.
Atletico Madrid and Inter Milan followed the English clubs to the exit on Wednesday, leaving four teams – Real Madrid, Barcelona, Milan and Juventus – still participating.

In an interview before the English clubs withdrew, Agnelli insisted the project would go ahead, telling La Republica today:

“There is a blood agreement between our clubs and we will move forward. The project has a 100 percent chance of success. Football is no longer a game, but an industrial sector that needs stability.”

Juventus’s share declined by more than 12% today, after reaching its highest levels since September after the announcement of the project.

European football has been struck by a state of division in recent days, after 12 elite clubs in England, Spain and Italy announced their intention to start a new tournament consisting of 20 teams, where there are 15 fixed teams in addition to 5 changing teams each season.

In a statement signed by the England, Spain and Italy football federations and club associations in the three countries, the European Football Association (UEFA) threatened to exclude players and clubs participating in the European Super League from participating in other tournaments.
