Lebanon Receives 2nd Batch of Morocco’s Humanitarian Aid

Two Moroccan military airplanes delivered today morning a second batch of the humanitarian aid Morocco announced for the Lebanese Armed Forces and people.

Morocco’s Ambassador to Lebanon M’hamed Karine, members of the embassy and a representative of the Commander of the Lebanese Army received the package.

The representative of the Lebanese Army commander renewed his expression of “deep appreciation” and “gratitude” for King Mohammed VI, thanking him for his “noble humanitarian initiative.”

Morocco’s military will continue to deliver the aid in the next two days.

The first batch landed in Beirut on April 17, less than 12 hours after Morocco’s King Mohammed VI announced his decision to send the aid to Lebanon.

The North African country ordered the delivery of 90 tonnes of basic food aid through eight military airplanes.

The humanitarian aid comes as Lebanon experiences a dire economic crisis.

The crisis is due to socio-political divides and economic mismanagement since the end of the civil war.

COVID-19 worsened the situation, causing uproar among citizens and residents in Lebanon who have been complaining about the crisis in the region.

This is not the first time that Morocco has come to the aid of Lebanon in times in distress.

The country sent a military convoy to Lebanon to establish a military hospital following a devastating explosion that destroyed parts of Beirut on August 4, 2020. The explosion flattened a section of Lebanon’s capital, with losses amounting to roughly $15 billion.
