Inauguration of the statue of the Soviet poet Rasul Hamzatov in Cairo

The inauguration ceremony of the bust of the prominent Soviet and Russian poet Rasul Hamzatov (1923-2003) took place in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, on Sunday.

The unveiling ceremony of the monument, located in Freedom Park in Cairo, next to the Qasr al-Nil Bridge, took place under the auspices of the Russian embassy and in the presence of the Russian ambassador, Georgy Borisenko, and Egyptian officials.

It is noteworthy that the work was designed and executed by the Egyptian sculptor Osama Al-Sary, who is 76 during his artistic career, and his third in this garden.

Rasul Hamzatov was born in the Soviet Republic of Dagestan in the North Caucasus in 1923, and his father was a well-known poet in his republic and a symbol of the poetic and lyrical heritage of his people.

Rasul was nine years old when he composed his first poems.

And his first collection of poems was published in the year 1943.

He composed and sang many of his poems, including “The Departed Sunny Days” and “The Storks”, known to entire generations of Soviet and Russian citizens.
