After being accused of insulting Muslims … China responds to international companies boycotting Xingyang cotton

China is once again offended by the statements about the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, as Nike, Adidas and H&M have expressed concern that the country is using forced labor from the Uyghurs, so they refused to buy cotton from this area. (Which produces about one-fifth of the world’s cotton).

Chinese companies were subjected to new sanctions in March by the United States, the European Union, the United Kingdom and Canada for alleged violations of the rights of Uyghurs and other ethnic minorities.

In January, the US authorities also imposed a ban on importing cotton and cotton products from Xing Yang. US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken described China’s policy toward the Muslim population in the region as genocide, according to “Sports.com.”

Against this background, China remembered last year’s statements issued by Nike, Adidas and H&M, and representatives of the Chinese Communist Youth Federation posted screenshots of their statements on Weibo, in which they said: “Are you spreading rumors to boycott “Ching Yang cotton and they want to make money in China? They are dreaming.”

And a powerful PR war has broken out in the country against Western clothing brands.

On Weibo, the phrase “I support Sheng Yang cotton” is among the most popular phrases. Users post videos on social networks burning products of these Western companies.

For Nike and H&M, the Chinese market is the third largest. Nike owns 7,000 stores in China. In the fiscal year 2020 (ending in May 2020), the company’s sales there reached $ 6.7 billion.
