Steve Martin hilariously fixes his mask problem

At this point in the coronavirus pandemic, most of us are pretty comfortable wearing a face mask in public to help guard against the spread of COVID-19. Most — but not all.

Take comic, banjo player and longtime famous person, Steve Martin. On Saturday, Steve tweeted about an issue he’s been having with the CDC’s recommendation to protect himself and others from contracting the virus by wearing a mask.

In a nutshell, if Steve’s instantly identifiable, 75-year-old smile is shrouded beneath layers of fabric or paper, how will people he encounters outside his home know they’re brushing elbows with — sorry, make that socially distant air-brushing elbows with — a hugely famous person?

Luckily for all of us, Steve’s managed to remedy this potentially devastating situation by adding a little flair to his noggin.

“I always wear a mask when I go outside,” he shared on Twitter. “But something about it was leaving me anxious and unsettled. I thought about the problem, addressed it, and here is the solution.”

Yep, that solution would be an arrow pointing to Steve’s head, drawn on a piece of paper beneath his name.

The jokey tweet quickly went viral as Steve’s fans and followers commented on how the gag was reminiscent of one of the comic’s most famous stand-up bits.

As Jimmy Kimmel put it, “the old ‘arrow-through-the-head’ know-how is finally paying dividends!”
