A US court may appeal the death penalty for the Boston bombing

A US court said it was resuming the death penalty for Boston Marathon bomber Johar Tsarnaev, after a federal appeals court decided to overturn the sentence last July.
The judges agreed to hear an appeal by the administration of former President Donald Trump, which carried out executions of 13 federal prisoners in the last six months of his term.

The Associated Press reported that the case will not be heard until next fall, and it is unclear how President Joe Biden’s administration will deal with the Tsarnaev case.

Biden had pledged to seek an end to the federal death penalty. Jawhar Tsarnaev was arrested in 2013, as part of a security operation during which his older brother Tamerlan was killed.

The brothers detonated two explosive devices near the end line of the Boston Marathon on April 15, 2013, killing three people and wounding more than 280 others.
