Icebreaker enters the Gulf of Finland to prevent flooding from St. Petersburg

59

The icebreaker “Buran” and the locomotive ships of the “Leningrad” naval base of Russia sailed from Kronstadt for the Gulf of Finland to clear the accumulated ice in the Gulf and prevent the flooding of St. Petersburg.

The main function of the sweeper is to break the ice for the passage of ships to the city ports.

According to military meteorologists, the sharp fluctuations in temperature led to the accumulation of large amounts of ice in the Gulf of Finland, which could cause a rise in water levels and a flood of St. Petersburg.
